Molluscum contagiosum is a common and contagious viral skin infection caused by the Molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV). This condition is characterised by the development of small, flesh-coloured, or pearly bumps on the skin with a central dimple or indentation. These lesions are usually painless but can be itchy, and they often appear in clusters. Molluscum is highly prevalent among children but can affect individuals of any age. The virus spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact or via contact with contaminated objects, making prevention and early treatment crucial.

What is Molluscum?
Causes of Molluscum
● Viral Infection: Molluscum contagiosum is caused by the MCV, a poxvirus that infects the skin’s top layers. It results in a benign skin condition.
● Direct Contact: Transmission occurs through skin-to-skin contact or sexual intercourse

● Clusters: Bumps often appear in groups or clusters on the skin, majorly in the armpits, neck, buttocks, thighs, face, genitals, abdomen, and chest sides. Except these, it can occur in other areas like soles and palms as well.
● Itching: While generally painless, some individuals may experience mild itching sometimes.
